Every so often as I step into the plush luxury of my American 4x4, my mind goes back to my first car. The (in)famous Ambassador!

Started practicing on my Ambi when I was 15. The day I got my license was a red letter day. My dad gave me an Ambi. MRG 644 -still remember the no!! Immaculate condition, she was in 4 months time affectionately christened 'Machine gun kelly' by all my college friends. Not for its speed but for the rattling sound it made. I had successfully removed the bourgois 'new look' with a well used look.

MGK as she was known had a mind of her own! And I swore it was a she as everytime I took a girl out, for no reason she would act up and I ended up in apna BEST! Romance ka to kachra! If she didn't act up in the beginning, she always did after 15-20 minutes. Many times I ended up with my date pushing my car which certainly didn't get me into the dates good books, in fact I rarely got a second date after that experience!

Any one else would like to contribute to memories of the good ol' Ambassador?

My father bought his first car within months of my birth. He bought a second hand Ambassador Mark 2.. It was a 1962 model.

He loved it very much and considered it lukcy. He then passed it on to me when I was 18. I love that car very much.. Despite being so old, we have maintained it quite well... I still have it parked in the garage of my apartment in Mumbai.

There is no feeling of space and comfort and ruggedness on Indian roads like the Ambassador

arre babaa .. my old "goombass"

I learned more about repairing cars on that Ambassador, than I could have learnt going to mechanic school :D

Every time I had to start it, I had to suck the petrol out of the little hose and spit it into carburetor. Did this for more than a year. Was really fun at signals etc if the car stalled .. peee pooo honk honk

A friend of mine once teased me .. "tune maa ka doodh itna nahin piya hoga jitna is gaadi se petrol piya hai"

It did teach me one more thing. Drinking petrol is the cheapest high. Ek do ghoonth me sahi nashaa chad jaata hai.

I was real sorry to see it go, in some ways.
