Appreciate if you can help ... thanks.
1. How do I remove from the bottom right tray icon of windows messenger or even stop it from loading when I turn on my computer? I am on windows 2000.
2. Microsoft word ... I have to load blank document twice to be able to write in inner window or on in it ... first try is always just grey inner screen. Is there some setting in tools or options?
3. Now this is hard to explain ... there are several occasions during the day when I seem to lose control of my computer! Looking at Zone Alarm icon (flashing) I can see that some sort of downloading or uploading activity is taking place but I can not even move my mouse (arrow) to be able to stop it from happening or turn off the computer. This happens only when I am logged on to internet.
I have tried re-formatting windows and even reinstalling windows ... I have also tried connecting through new hard drive. Surprisingly, my windows 98 laptop does not have this problem ... I stay connected all the time and always in control.
Everytime after such activity I scan with LAVA ADAWARE and find several registry keys, registry values or files in its summary report. Report shows these in documents or setting files. There is nothing when I open documents or settings folders!
Initialy I thought it was due to live updating of virus definitions or something but I think it is not.
Thanks.
 :)

Come to think of it ... this kind of activity has reduced in the past two weeks since I used SPYBOK to clean HD of registry keys or files.

Open Windows Messenger. Click Tools->Options->Prefrences
Uncheck "Run this program when windows starts"
Click Ok.

While in MS-Word. Close all documents. Press Ctrl-N and see if a new blank documents opens. If not, replace the NORMAL.DOT file with a clean NORMAL.DOT. You can extract this file from original MS-Word CD-Rom.

Have u checked about Automatic Windows Update??? if enabled, try disabling it. Right Click My Computer Icon, Click Properties, Click Automatic Updates tab, Uncheck the only checkbox.
Hope this helped.
Thanks.

:D Believe it or not ... since I posted this thread ... yeh salla window messenger icon :smash: has not shown up ... I will be ready when it shows up next if it does. Thanks.

:) Ctrl-N and worked ... Thanks.

:) Done ... thanks.
Lekin yaar I have my fears ... There are times when I turn of my firewall for convenience and forget to turn it on. I wonder if fell prey to some hackers software downloaded in to my computer. Not that I keep any credit card details in here. Automatic window update wont take over completely all functions of your computer so that you can not even turn it off? Does it?
Funny feeling ... you know what I mean?
Thanks bhaYa ... greatly appreciated. You guys are too good! Thanks again.
edit:  Fo(king bloody shit man ... :) Brahamchariji I think I have found the culprit. I found window messenger folder and went in to preferences ... bloody entire thing was as open as Munnabhai's kotha to midnight clients. All the settings were bloody checked open. I have unchecked everything but now I see bloody window messenger icon sitting in my tray.
Thanks Brahamchariji ... Is there anything else I can do to remove anything that might have been placed in my computer without my knowledge? Appreciate.

1. Check in Task Manager if there are any suspicious looking applications/processes
2. Click Start->Run. Type "MSCONFIG" without quotes and press enter. Now you will see the system configuration utility on the screen. goto STARTUP tab and see if there are any suspicious looking apps. Disable them.

Be careful. On a laptop there are many applications which are not to be found on any normal desktop. Check the attached file for more details.

:) Brahachariji ... thamba ... my laptop has no problem no more. Problem is with my two personal PC's hard drives ... one is running on windows w98 and other w2000 and both seems to have some shit happening. Both pc's are in different places so atm I am just trying to fix the one with w2000.
 You helped solve my problem with Microsoft word (ctrl+N) and also "window messenger" is now off. Except for unknown stuff in MSCONFIG service and trying to find if some software could have placed some Puke somewhere ... Last night I discovered that even my "Yahoo messenger files transfers" were open as wide as Munnabai's legs.

Did I say something about SERVICES in MSCONFIG? I said about STARTUP and NOT Services tab.
You say that u are not a computer expert, so I advise you to not play with SERVICES.
