Wild new sounds for mobile phones
LONDON, England -- Mobile phone users could soon be answering to the calls of nature when their devices ring.

London's British Library has sold 40 sounds from its collection of 100,000 wildlife recordings to two mobile ringtone companies.

The noises range from penguins and pigs to screeching parrots and roaring lions.

"We have a vast collection of wildlife sounds at the library, including British wildlife and more exotic birds and animals from the Amazon to the Serengeti," said Richard Ranft, the library's curator of wildlife sounds.

"We have produced a range of CDs with bird sounds and have found that they are used in doctors' surgeries for their calming effects. We hope people will find their mobile ring tones as relaxing."

Users of new polyphonic mobile phones will be able to download the sounds over the Internet from iTouch and Mobiletones starting in September.
