Welcome to EC!
www.webMD.com can be a good resource to find out/discuss this one. May be pelu/SG/Videsee/Rahul can help here.

Hey mom.. Welcome to EC and dont worry your kid will do just fine.
MMR is Mumps Measles and Rubella vaccine and is routinely given.
Here is background info for you.
Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine (MMR)
MMR vaccine protects children against measles, mumps and rubella (German measles). It is given to children at 13 months of age and again before they go to school. The second dose protects anybody who did not respond to the first dose. Very rarely, children can have severe allergic reactions straight after any immunisation (about 1 in 100,000 immunisations for MMR) and a quick treatment cures that reaction.
The suggestion of a link between measles vaccine and/or vaccines containing measles (such as MMR) and inflammatory bowel disease or autism have largely come from one source, a team at the Royal Free Hospital, London, led by Dr Andrew Wakefield. Autism, a disorder causing behavioural and language problems, is recognised more often now than in the past and the increases in the cases of autism were going on before MMR was introduced. Parents often first notice the signs of autism around the time MMR is usually given. This does not mean that one causes the other.
Also there is this PDF that gives you more information.

Rest assured, if the kid is normal, nothing is gonna happen to him.

Yes it will change his life for ever.. However the change will only be for good. So do not worry. I have 2 myself and the first one has had that vaccine and she is just doing great. The second one is going to get it in another 2 months time so relax.
That wakefield guy presented all the data wrong I guess either to get an award or to just get some fame..
Check the FAQ (Second link I gave) it tells you how the data was presented "wrong".

:) Hey Mama welcome to echarcha. Feel free.
Promise not to be offended? You have access to doctors or pediatricians if you can logon to internet. Dont you think for the better health of child as well as your own peace of mind that you ask those professionals such questions. We have great bunch of parents here but still with the best of the intentions ... you ought to consult doctors ... no? No two children react same ... no?
Once again ... great to have another young parent here.

Tantu,
No pediatrician will say "DO NOT TAKE MMR". So she is being a little more proactive and asking if anyone else has info about the alleged connection between MMR and autism.
Agreed we are not professionals but perhaps she is a new internet user and so does not know how to search for relevant material on the net.
Ok so I got her the data she needed. Now its up to her to read it up and assure herself and then ask informed questions to the pediatrician.
I agree NO two children react the same. Some get a fever others dont.. but CDC, FDA and others make sure that the "reaction" of two different children is not dramatically different before they approve the drug as a standard vaccine.
Remember TB vaccine? They first give a very mild shot on the wrist and ask us to observe if it swells too much before giving the actual TB shot? That is because children can react violently to that one if they have slightest allergy to that medicine..
So there are standards and procedures that are to be followed and all that is pretty well documented and available on public domain irrespective of your "profession".

Well I just needed some info from experienced parents as compared to me. I just wanted to know if thier kids had the inflammatory bowel disorder and Crohns desease after the MMr shots. Did thier kids have fever either low grade or very high. Which a ped cannot tell me.

Bhaya aapse bahas kadke kiya hamein taang turwana hai.
:) BhaYa ... worried at the condition of our child, ... who among us has not made midnight calls to relatives and friends to be reassured that "my baby" is going to be all right. Fortunate among us have elders to guide.
:)We have panicked more thn once, gotten in to the car, drove like crazy in the middle of the night to emergency room ... and suddenly ... you stop your car in the middle of the road and realize: "wait a fokking moment ... what the hell are we doing?
Are we crazy or what? What the hell are we gonna tell emergency room staff? She is ok ... just slight fever ... milk she threw out was not vomitting!" ... and we turn back home. :)
We can assure this our new member, a young mother and we can reassure her afterall we have and or are going through these same concerns. These fears are normal. There are concerns now that some of the vaccinations might or can do more dmamge thn prevent that what is less harmfull.
Lekin ... this one we are not discussing colds, fever or flu ... no? We can tell her all about our experiences but she has to decide in conjunction with her pedia ... Mein aur kiya bola? Yehi to bola na? Phir aap gussa kahe ko?

Ok ... :) Mama
I forgot and should have mentioned yesterday. There are these YAHOO groups (free, I think) and they have dozens of discussion groups whose membership consists of many a health professionals as well as thousands of young parents such as yourself. They try and tackle specific concerns related to the health of young children.
These are great groups to join and many a parents almost raise their children from the good advi given ... so I have been told.
Days like this I am reminded of my childhood. My father :D could care no less but my mother woke up everyday at 4 in the morning ... to pray to the gods ... for the health of her son.
