It has to be between Kishore and Rafi. My vote goes to Kishore Kumar.

Mine goes to Rafi. Kishore had a great voice, but Rafi was more versatile. He was also great at classical music.

I thought Rafi had a better voice but Kishore was more versatile. I hate comparing these two guyz. Love 'em both.

I think this could be one post I might disagree with you :D :D

But, to compare these two would be unfair on Abhas Kumar Ganguly :D and on Rafi

I like both the singers, but when it comes to songs - i like KK's songs more becus they are more jovial and cheerful :D

But Rafi's songs were jovial too when he gave playback to Shammi Kapoor. His number "Sar jo tera chakaraye" was damned good too.

Rafi  He was a trained, genuine singer with a supernatural talent.

Kishore was fine too, but Rafi is way out of his league.

yeah sar jo tera chakraye was filmed on johnny walker(my grandpa's hero :D )

as a salute to rafisahab, i classify shammi kapoor's songs in an entirely different genre. i used to see shammi's movies when i was 10 or 11 only because he seemed more cheerful than all the other heros who were crying all the time.

When rafisahab passed away, i remember shammi said: "I have lost me voice" :(

All listed are greats..

K L Sehgal
Md. Rafi
Kishor Kumar
Mukesh
Manna Dey
But few more come to mind. viz.

Talat Mehmood
Hemant Kumar
Mahedra Kapoor

Can't compare them or select a "best" from them. Agreed the most "lively" singer in the whole lot is Kishore Da.

More difficult songs of kishore da..

Mai hun jhum jhum jhumroo.
Vo shaam kuch ajeeb thi.. romatic, slow paced but difficult to get it right.
Rim jhim gire sawaan.. Looks easy.. but singing this (and to get the emotions right) not easy task.
Kuch to log kahenge.. One has to have a very good command on his scale.. as it rises quite a bit "Chhodo bekar ki baaton me" part and drops abruptly "Kuch reet jagat ki aiisi hai" part.

Uff.. kyaa gaane hain

Few more nice lyrics and nicely sung by Kishor da ......

Mere naina sawan bhadon .....

Zindgi ka safar hai ye kaisa safar .....

Mai shayer badnaam mai chala ......

Koi lauta de mere beete hue din ......

Zindgi ke safar mein guzar jaate hain jo mukaam .....

I found that song which he has sung in both male and female voices.....I have heard that he has actually recorded that way without any editing or mixing later !!! Koi batao jara uske lyrics ............

I can't compare all these greats. I equally like rafi, kishore, Hemantda, Talat, Mannadey, mukesh (some songs).....

There are numerous anecdotes about his eccentricities. This one is truly incredible: For some reason, Lataji failed to turn up for the recording of the song ‘Aake Sedhi Lage Hain’ from the film Half Ticket. Kishoreda actually offered the composer Salil Chaudhary to sing her parts as well! Naturally, the whole unit laughed it off as a joke, but when Kishoreda insisted that he was serious, it really brought the house down. He actually went ahead and sang both the male as well as female parts!
