One of worlds most populated land
sports history of thousands of years
and one BRONZE medal!
As long as Lalloolals of India have control over money
as long as OLD third rate CRICKET PLAYERS ARE turned in to managers and coaches of all other sports
as long as these gambling cricket players
remain Indian heroes
LET US ALL CELEBRATE ONE BRONZ MEDAL!
AND TO OUR WINNING INDIAN LADY
BEHENJI, WHILE I CONGRATULATE YOU ON WINNING
PLEASE DO CONSIDER MIGRATING TO WEST
NOT ONLY WILL YOU BE APPRECIATED
BUT TRAINED BETTER
WITH ENOUGH FOOD TO EAT
SO THAT
YOU WILL BE CAPABLE OF GOLD AT NEXT OLYMPICS
I AS AN INDIAN AM PROUD OF YOU
AND I ALSO KNOW THAT
THAT ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH.

"Sad but true" goes a popular song by Metallica.

This aptly applies to our Indian Olympics squad.

We only idolise cricket players and only promote cricket. Nothing so very wrong with that, but we ignore other sports! Thats bad!

And I dont see that our government will ever think of sports as an industry and promote it. Why? Because in sports you cannot appoint babus or relatives just for the heck of it like youc an do in other Public Sector undertakings like Air India and Indian Railways. So ministers and politicians dont see sports as 'profitable'.

Cricket brings in the moolah, so we have all kinds of ignoramuses, incompetents and corrupt scoundrels filling up key decisive posts in the Indian Cricket Board!

So I think Malleswari who won the weightlifitng bronze medal should really migrate to some other country to be able to prosepr in her career! Sad, but 100% true!!

That is such a load of hogwash... "migrate to prosper". Weight lifting is not a glamorous sport out in the west... specially with the women and them being chunky. Atleast in India she'll be a celebrity and hopefully a rolemodel.

My dear friends,

A few years back, I had the good fortune to attend a Sports Seminar in Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay. I was doing my Summer Training for MBA. I was the flunkey there, saluting to everyone. Every one was cribbing about the consistently poor performance of India at the Olympics and what its causes could be. At that seminar, a BIG-WIG from the Olympic commitee who was present thundered :

"GIVE ME INDIA AND I WILL GET YOU 10 OLYMPIC MEDALS IN A COUPLE OF YEARS!!"

This was a shocking statement. It takes years and years to improve performance - as we have to improve facilities, get trainers, etc. We all disbelieved him (including, I am ashamed to say - me). Two years???

Then he revealed something that was shocking. Do you know friends that we RARELY send the best participant?? He told of an Oriya runner who was so fast that he could beat that year's fastest runner. The BIG MAN had witnessed it himself. Most importantly, this boy was a tribal and would run bare-foot. If he were given training, he could beat the record!! But he was not selected. Why? Because there were too many participants from the East - 'Aur doosron ko bhee chance denaa chahiye" - else it is a threat to national integration.

We were told not one, not two, but atleast a dozen cases like that. People rejected because of caste, religion, region, language, urban/rural, economic status, etc. The rules are arbitrary and the officials have a gala tme. There is one official who openly demands women. (Not my words, the BIG-WIG'S).

Friends, India is a big country. But is it fair that we discriminate like this? Forget all your affiliations for a moment. Should we not be sending the BEST OF THE BEST?? Answer honestly.

Do you know the harrassment that our sportsmen have to go thru?
i) In the last 10 International meet, in 3 meets we had NO T-SHIRTS WITH COUNTRY's LOGO (Only Team).
ii) When the sportsmen come back, routinely harrassed by Customs (even for a Parker Pen).
iii) No training, etc.

How long will this continue. I wonder.......

10 years ... nothing has changed ... exploitation of our sportspeople continues ... female players almost always at receiving end. Cricket players rule. No other sport matters. How many Indians can recall country's only Olympic Gold medal during last games? Not while hundreds of millions idiots still celebrating marriage of some cricket asshole.

Shrigareyji, and to think ... Commonwealth games are just around the corner!

NEW DELHI: A member of the Indian women's hockey team has accused team's coach and Olympian, Maharaj Kishan Kaushik, of sexual harassment.

An anonymous letter dated June 11 was sent to the ministry, a copy of which is with TOI, saying, "Mr Kaushik asks for sexual favours from the junior girls and passes lewd comments by calling them to his room on the pretext of 'game meeting'. The girls, all coming from poor and humble background are too scared to speak against the coach. A couple of years back the coach also had adulterous relations with a lady member of the coaching staff. They together spoiled the whole atmosphere of the camp. The camp became a means for their illicit deeds."

Kaushik, when contacted, vehemently denied the allegation. "I don't know who has written the letter. But whoever has written it, I want the ministry to find out and punish the perpetrator for slandering my name. That's all I have to say about this."

The letter goes on to say: "Our team has two videographers. One is Mr Basavraj who is basically a photographer employed with the Sports Authority of India, Bangalore. He only knows how to record matches and has zero knowledge of computers. The other videographer Ms H Nalini is a software professional... Nalini is the main requirement of the team looking into the importance of video analysis in modern hockey. Yet for any foreign tour Kaushik takes Basavraj with the team, the reason being Basavraj bribes Kaushik and also buys him drinks on tours abroad and pays for his shopping. The whole team is upset with this."

The player further alleges in the letter: "Kaushik lacks the quality of tactical play that is required to compete at elite level. He is psychologically unfit." The letter ends with a lament that the Indian women's hockey team is not able to perform well because of the coach.

"Sir, our women hockey players are really talented and the team can be amongst the best in the world but the politics of the coach is ruining the team. MK Kaushik is using his reputation to hide his wrong-doings... he is misusing his position as the chief coach."

Meanwhile, a TV channel added to the sleaze by showing video clippings of a team official in a compromising position with a couple of girls. When contacted, Rajiv Mehta, chairman of a five-member committee formed to probe into this incident, told TOI: "We have received a complaint. We had a meeting and we have dropped the videographer from the team with immediate effect. Kaushik also told us that he won't tour with the team until his name is cleared. We have called the girl complainant tomorrow for a meeting."
