One of my employees just received an email. Here is an intersting excerpt.. I think this ought to be illegal.

Everyone is expected to work 50 hrs per week minimum as specified by managers including contractors. Contractors will be billing 40 hours per week. Under extreme work conditions (i.e. 60 hours) 45 hours can be billed.

This from a big time corporation..

in East COast has been contracting with a big name Wall Street firm for last 2 years. He was expected to complete a 'professional day' which meant qorking 9 hours and at times 10 hours but billing for only 8 hours.

He did not say a word because he wanted to keep his job. His silence sort of paid off as he was kept on the job throughout the entire downturn last year and this year. Those who had raised questions were let go at the first opportunity the company had.

Well, what can you say. In such tough times all I can say is - Paycheck is coming in every other Friday which is the only thing that matters!!

Times are bad... Right now when any friend meets any other friend in the Valley the only question is - "Pagaar chalu ha kya?" (paycheck's still coming in?)
