Hyderabad, April 2: The Central Crime Station police on Monday arrested two youths for misusing credit cards and going on an online shopping spree.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detective Department, K Narasimha Rao, one of the accused, E Manohar (27), of Jagadgirigutta got the details of some credit card holders from his friend C Moses (26), of Sanathnagar who works as a steward in a star hotel.
The modus operandi of Manohar was simple. Being a computer operator, Manohar asked his friend Moses to provide him with the name, number, expiry date and the cash available on the credit cards of customers who frequented the star hotel.
Moses readily provided the details and Manohar purchased diamond jewellery, a cellphone, digital diary, garments and other equipment through online shopping using the credit card numbers of others.
He successfully used the credit cards of seven persons.
His operations came to light when one of the victims lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Station on March 8 saying that someone had used his American Express Credit Card without his knowledge and consent.
During investigations it was revealed that the accused made purchases through online shopping facilities provided by various portals, like www.noshutters.com, www.sify.com and www.rediff.com.
The investigating officers located the address of Manohar by tracking the details on the respective sites through which he had shopped and arrested him on Monday. Based on his information, Moses has also been arrested.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he made purchases by using the American Express, Master Card and Visa Credit Cards belonging to Ch Kiran, Y R Prasad, K Srinivasa Rao, L L Duggal, Hariharan, Taranjeet Saurav and S S Sultani.
The accused also gained access to different pornographic websites by using the credit cards.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police cautioned public to be careful while using their credit cards. He appealed to the people to ensure that the billing is done in their presence.
