I was invited to their rite once (to see, not eat). I politely refused. Sacchi Bhai - this was becos I was the very few 'sympathetic outsider' if u get me.

Yes aghori's do exist. Dunno about their literate status etc but they do steal flesh from shamshaan ghats and burn it in alcohol and consume it. I saw it in Discover/National Geo a while ago. But this is not like they are regular cannibals. Infact, they are otherwise strict vegiterians.

I believe they think that by consuming a partly burned body they achieve purity or something like that.
