India today refused permission to its cricket team to participate in the three-nation Sharjah tournament and decided to keep away from 'non-regular venues' for 'at least three years'.
The government has informed the Cricket Board of its decision asking it not to send its team for the tournament, also featuring Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which was to start next week. "Government has decided, after careful consideration, that Indian cricket team should not participate in cricket tournaments at non-regular venues such as Sharjah, Singapore, Toronto etc, for at least three years," an official release said here today.
"BCCI has accordingly been informed that Indian cricket team should not participate in the forthcoming tournament in Sharjah commencing from April 8, 2001," the release said.
The decision is in keeping with India's policy of not maintaining cricketing ties with Pakistan after the Kargil war in 1999 and comes four days after tournament organisers lobbyed hard here to ensure its participation.
India twice pulled out of the annual Sahara Cup bilateral tournament in Toronto and refused permission to its team to tour Pakistan late last year citing its neighbour's continued support to cross-border terrorism in Kashmir as the reason.

Truth is India is afraid of loosing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka. India feels insulted because these nations are so small compared to India and consistantly winning against India in last few years. Iam don't know the records but thee is very indication that India is playing it safe and they have a very good excuse this time. If Kargil is the reason why did India play in the Hockey tournament last month.
Indians Govt should change their decision now that India is beating the crap out of Australian, the team is playing excellent cricket after a long time. Hopefully these matches are not fixed.
Any guess who will win the one-day series
3-2 India.

I wonder if Indians will still want to play with Pakistan if there were to be a war with Pakistan?Stating the same old pseudo secular statement "Dont mix politics and sports".

Besides the ISI, playing in Sharjah and other locations will be prone to match-fixing as these are meaningless matches on dead pitches (esp Sharjah). Plus, the underworld and ISI has a hand there and it would not be surprising if part of the revenue from Sharjah tournaments goes to funding them
India should play Pakistan, but not at Sharjah. India is not afraid of Pakistan. We kicked the Aussies' ass. Pakistan is easier.
Sports can be seperated from politics. But cricket being the most popular sport in India (an understatement) it iw wrong to play matches with the neighbour whose countrymen are slaughtering innocents in Kashmir at a venue where part of the revenue will fuel this slaughter and other insurgent activities.

India should certainly stop playing Pakistan. What do we miss by not playing them?!!.
And the Indian team has lost most of the matches that they played against them,by winning in cricket against India the Paki populace gets false confidence in their country and we should deny them that!!

Yes, actually Toronto and Singapore probably don't have these problems. India can play there but if they are between tours or just after a tour (like the sharjah one), it strains the players too much and it might be better if they conserve their energy and mental strength for the next tour. If there is a really big gap, there is no problem, in fact, these could be an ideal testing ground for new talent and maybe some senior players can choose not to go and rest further.

playing against pakistan ..was always a political tool for our popular jokers called "politicians" . We dont have to find reasons why to play and why not to play with pak.
Infact ..policy towards pakistan for any indian government was always a political tool to play and manipulate with . Sports was one of them ..so these machars are playing with that tool basically.
why dont people understand ..the dirty tricks of our politicians.
just wondering ..was there any news/issue about hockey , volleyball or any other game rather than cricket ,in the context of pakistan ??

India is afraid of pukis....what the hell:mad:. india is way better then those f**king drug addicts. Do check the records....in the last couple of series, india have always been on the top:smash:.
Iam don't know the records but thee is very indication that India is playing it safe and they have a very good excuse this time.
yes i know that u dont:). Have some proff of the statement that u are passing. india was never the best team i agree, but I am proud of Indian team:angel:. Jis team mein Sachin, Dravid, Shewag, Yuvi,...dhoni, bhaji, kumble ho...woh team for me is the best:shoot::shoot:. Each one of these players is better than the whole pukis team:whacky:.
India is beating the crap out of Australian, the team is playing excellent cricket after a long time. Hopefully these matches are not fixed.
Common man get ur facts straight. On one hand u say india is better than ausi and on the other u say India is afraid of pukis. Ausis has been the best team for the long time now. if India can bring chills to the team like Ausis then Pukis is no where in the picture:down:.
As for team playing good cricket...I think we are quite consistant now...and performing as a team. I am impressed with Dravid as a captain and appretiate the way he commands his troups on the field:flamethro.
Cheers to Dravid and to indian team:jaihind:.
